Your wedding day is a celebration of love and the start of a new chapter in your life. As the bride and groom, you'll be feeling excitement and nerves waiting for the day to be perfect, memorable and special, surrounded by your loved ones. My job and one of the most important parts of your wedding day is capturing those memories in photographs, so you can look back on them and relive the magic and love each time you look at them.
To make sure that you don't miss any of the special moments on your wedding day, it's important to plan ahead and create a list of the must-have photographs. Here are some of the most romantic and inspiring moments you don't want to forget to photograph from my past experience:
1. Getting ready
Getting Ready gives you a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes moments of your special day, telling you the full story of the day that changed your life forever. Whether the bride is doing her hair, chatting with her maid of honor and having a glass of wine, or the groom is sharing a moment with his best man, listening to music and preparing his speech, these images tell the beginning of the rest of the day. So don't underestimate the importance of capturing these moments because they really add to the narrative of your love story.
2. The goodbye
Prior to the first look with the groom and bride, you can experience the same moments with your family, especially your parents. As you are the one leaving home to create your own, this is a highly emotional moment for both you and your family, and it's something you definitely don't want to miss. The first look of the bride with her dad and mom, while also saying goodbye to her sister and brother, are some of the pictures that people often forget to take. However, these moments are very special, passing by in the blink of an eye. Once you look back at the photographs, they become treasures for life. These are some of my favorite moments to capture.
3. First look
The first look is a special moment that the bride and groom will always remember. Rather than having the first look at the ceremony, you can create a special moment beforehand. I recommend it to be just you and your partner, but you can also share this moment with your loved ones. Those are instants that are full of magic, and just before the first look, you can share some letters, words, or music to make the moment even more magical. It's a unique sentiment that each time you look back at those photos, it will make your heartbeat race the same way it did that day.
4. The ceremony, vows and kiss
These moments capture the essence of your commitment to each other and the love that you share, making them an essential part of your album. The exchange of vows and the first kiss as a married couple are the moments that signify the start of your new life together. This is what you have been waiting for after all days of preparation. So, make sure to communicate with your photographer ahead of time to ensure that they have a clear understanding of the shots you want. These are a reminder of the moment you declared your love and commitment to each other in front of all your loved ones.
5. First dance
This is one of the most traditional photos to take, but are a must on every wedding. Make sure you photograph the moments you are dancing, as well as close-ups of your faces and expressions. It's also important to capture the reactions of your guests as they watch the first dance, as well as other special dances like the father-daughter dance or the mother-son dance.
6. The guests
While the focus is often on the bride and groom, it's important to remember that your guests played a significant role in making your special day truly memorable. Capturing pictures with your guests not only helps you remember who was there to celebrate with you, but it also creates a connection between you and your loved ones. One way you can do the pictures is to go to each table for a group photograph, so you do not spend all night taking photos and you can enjoy the party too.
7. Unique settings
Your wedding venue and decorations are important parts of your special day. Capture the essence of your unique setting with photographs of your venue, from wide-angle shots to details of the flowers and decor. You may want to take photos at different times of day, before everyone arrives and during the party, so you can experience both moods.
8. The hype of the party
While posed group shots are important, spontaneous shots of guests enjoying the party are just as valuable. Photos of you on the dance floor, guests having fun, or children running around can capture the mood of the party as well as funny and unique moments and faces. These pictures will make you smile and laugh for sure!
9. The send-off
The end of your wedding day marks a new beginning. Capture the excitement and emotion of the send-off with photographs of you leaving the venue, getting into their car, or being showered with confetti, or sparklers. The send-off is a beautiful moment that you will want to remember forever, since it is oficially the end of the day, and the start of your life together.
In the end, your wedding day is about the two of you, the love you have for each other and the memories you create together. Your photographs should be a reflection of that and should tell the story of your special day. If you take the time to plan your wedding photography, you will make sure your photographer will capture the moments that truly matters to you. I hope that these ideas inspires you to organize and try some of them on your big day. Remember to enjoy every moment, as time passes fast, and trust in your photographer to capture the magic of your special day. For me, it would be an honour to help you tell your story.
